Overview

 

The WiWiz1 when used as a gateway device provides an embedded webserver with Ethernet connectivity, in a ultra small package which includes an RJ45 Ethernet connector. The Ethernet interface uses less than 1 square inch of board space. It is connected to the on-board processor through a serial port. The information is stored on a local web server and all the information from the wireless network can be displayed on a web page. Any web browser on the network can assess the web page(s) with the appropriate security. Software is available to create a dynamic web page to view the data in real time. The device has the highest level of security including SSL. The device can be powered by POE (power of Ethernet). Using an Ethernet switch with POE capability eliminates the need to bring AC power to the Wi-Wiz1 when the Ethernet module is added to the board. The Ethernet webserver utilizes an independent 32 bit processor and does not have any affect on the performance of the application processor. In the gateway configuration mode the Wi-WIZ1 consists of three(3) high performance processing units, the RF protocol module, the application processor and the processor for the Ethernet/internet webserver/TCP/IP.

Power of Ethernet (POE)

 

POE is an IEEE standard know as IEEE 802.3af . POE is a standard system to safely pass electrical power, along with data, on Ethernet cabling. The power is obtained from an Ethernet switch or from a separate injector to put the necessary voltage on the Ethernet cable. POE utilizes the standard RJ-45 connector and CAT 5 Ethernet wiring.

 

POE allows the placement of a remote device such as the Wi-Wiz Ethernet server without bringing AC power to the location.
